What I know for sure...
I have always wanted a big family. When I was a little girl I used to dream of being a mama one day. Especially when it was the holidays! I used to imagine how amazing it would be to have all the kids around the Christmas table with carols playing ,everyone eating happily, and all reminising about our favorite Christmas traditions….
Fast-forward a few decades and now I have the big family I always wanted but does is it always look as picture perfect as I thought???… HECK NO!!
With every child comes a different temperament, personality, and will (God bless strong willed children) haha I learnt pretty quickly that it can be really tough at times raising these little humans. So here is some quick little gems of wisdom I have learnt along the way....
What I know for sure is no matter how “ready” you think you are to have kids, the truth is nothing can prepare you for the responsibility of looking after another life 24/7! Seriously! Some days I still feel like a kid myself and wonder who these little humans are that keep asking me for things. It can feel all consuming at times. But trust me when I say that the flip side of that is nothing can ever prepare you for the love, joy and daily heart explosions you will feel for your baby each and every day.
What I know for sure is that it really does take a village!! You need the help of friends and family, you need a support network and as hard as it might be you need to learn to accept the kindness of others. AND lets not forget you will need one of the greatest inventions on the planet that will become your best friend GOOGLE! for real, you would laugh if you saw some of my question history on google.. some favs include. Why is my kids poop green? or.... my baby won't stop crying help! Jokes aside though Its so true!! You NEED others!!! You need them to laugh with, cry with, ask advice from and do the seasons with because not one of us has this parenting thing figured out. We need each other!! I have done this season both with and without the support of people around me and let me tell you doing the journey with others makes life so much sweeter.
What I know for sure is its not always easy but the joys will far outweigh the work. And no matter how hard the day was when you put your lil ones to bed and finally get some downtime you find yourself looking at pictures and videos of them and and before you know it you're falling in love all over again. haha
And lastly, what I know for sure is no matter how all consuming the season you're in may feel like… be kind to yourself, don’t compare with others. Only you are graced to raise those babies and they really do grow up so fast! So I have decided to work on being present in the moment with the ones I love most, and savoring every season of being a mama... the good the bad and everything in between.
Feel free to join me.
All my love,
